Simple Self-Employed is intentionally narrower than accounting software. These answers explain what it does, what it does not do, and where your accountant still fits.

Product

Is this accounting software?+

No. It is a tax visibility and financial organisation platform. It helps you understand your position without the weight of full bookkeeping software.

Does this connect to banks?+

Not currently. Simple Self-Employed uses CSV imports, so you stay in control of exactly what is uploaded.

Can I import bank transactions?+

Yes. CSV imports are supported for bank accounts and credit cards.

Tax

Does this file with HMRC?+

No. The platform provides estimates, planning tools and exports. It does not submit tax returns.

Does this support Making Tax Digital?+

Not currently. The focus is financial visibility and preparation before speaking to your accountant.

Can I estimate my tax position?+

Yes. The estimate brings together PAYE, dividends, self-employed income, allowances and tax already paid.

Accountants

Does this replace my accountant?+

No. Simple Self-Employed helps you stay organised and understand your position. Your accountant remains responsible for reviewing and filing tax returns.

What can I send my accountant?+

You can export a PDF summary and spreadsheet files with categorised transaction detail and tax estimate information.

Pricing

How much does it cost?+

The Pro plan is £4 per month or £36 per year, with a 14-day free trial.

Do I need a credit card to start?+

No. The trial is designed to let you test the workflow first.
